ESA members celebrate World Sepsis Day with events all around Europe
ESA webinar with the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC)
This important webinar highlights sepsis as a persistent and serious global health challenge, far outlasting the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosted jointly by ISAC and ESA to mark World Sepsis Day, the event features two expert-led lectures:
Dr Ricard Ferrer will explore the role of biomarkers and molecular diagnostics in sepsis care, questioning their real-world impact on diagnosis and outcomes.
Prof. Evangelos J. Giamarellos-Bourboulis will discuss the concept of holistic patient management, examining whether such an approach truly exists and how it can be implemented effectively.
Together, these sessions aim to spark critical dialogue and drive innovation in the global fight against sepsis.
Sweden
Sepsisfonden is holding its annual WSD event in central Stockholm on 13 September from 10:00 until 14:00. The day will include lectures, interviews, survivor stories and a lot of information about sepsis, with healthcare professionals ready to answer questions from the audience. The event will also be the opportunity to unveil the results of the most recent sepsis awareness survey in Sweden, which shows a great increase: today, 73% of the Swedish people know what sepsis is, compared to 58% in 2023. Before Sepsisfonden started in 2015, founded by ESA Steering Committee members Ulrika Knutsson and Adam Linder, awareness in Sweden was only 21%.
France
On 16 September, the Ministry of Health is hosting a World Sepsis Day event on 16 September, gathering 14 scientific societies, patient organizations, the National Health Agency (Haute Autorité de Santé) and high level representatives from the Ministry.
Turkey
The Turkish Society of Intensive Care is organising an international hybrid meeting on 13 September, called “Sepsis: Current Approaches and Future Perspectives”. See the programme below.
